CREASE RECOVERY TESTER
Cellulose molecules consist of crystalline and amorphous regions bound by hydrogen bonds between -OH groups. The OH groups of amorphous region are far from each other and remain unbound therefore when cotton cloth is folded and press than some of hydrogen bonds are breaks and become free.
These new free -OH groups react with free -OH groups of amorphous region and produce new structure which is known as crease.
The problem of crease is widely seen in cotton fabric. The crease recovery of cotton fabric can be determine by crease recovery tester. Crease recovery tester determine crease recovery of textile by measuring angle. The important specification of crease recovery tester are as follow.
Size of test sample 40 mm X 15 mm
Creasing load 10 N 500 gram
For angle measurement Round raised scale
Scale reading 0-180 degree
Construction Stainless steel body
First cut out test sample as per specification and folded from the center. Put creasing load over the test sample for 5 minutes. Thus, certain types of crease produce on fabric and after 5 minutes remove load. Than take out folded fabric properly and insert one end into sample holder place over round scale. Than set round scale at 90* angle with reference to sample holder clip. After that remove another end of test fabric for free to move. Due to gravitational force free end of test fabric move down and try to recover crease. Provide 2 minutes to sample and after that note down angle produce by fabric. Such angle is known as crease recovery angle. Repeat the above process 2 to 3 times and find out average recovery angle.
